Midnight Owl

Great Horned Owls are the most common and best known owl in North Ameica. Their deep low hoots might be heard any time of year, but they hoot most often in late winter to early spring. They are active in late evening and early morning twilight, as well as during the night. Great Horned Owls nest in abandoned hawk and magpie nests, atop witches brooms, and on cliff ledges. They prey on small mammals, including rabbits, squirrels, skunks, rats, voles, and mice. Open edition print from an original watercolor by Susan Quinlan.
